Dr. Patricia Maguire Meservey

President, Salem State University

Patricia “Pat” Maguire Meservey is the 13th president of Salem State University, one of the largest state colleges in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The college occupies 115 acres on five campuses less than a mile from downtown Salem, and enrolls over 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students representing 27 states and 70 nations. With a student/faculty ratio of 17:1, an annual operating budget of over $118 million and an aggressive expansion plan that includes a 525-bed residence hall and a new, state-of-the-art library and learning center, Salem State serves as an important resource for the region’s business and municipal communities.

Prior to this appointment, Dr. Meservey was the provost and academic vice president of Suffolk University in Boston.  Prior to Suffolk, she was vice provost for faculty and budget at Northeastern University, where she held a number of positions, including professor of nursing, special assistant to the president, and interim provost for enrollment management.  Dr. Meservey also was the executive director of the Center for Community Health Education, Research and Service and the national director of the Community Partnerships in Graduate Medical and Nursing Education Initiative.  Both initiatives were funded by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.   She is recognized for her work in the advancement of teaching excellence, promotion of faculty scholarship, and academic and administrative planning.
