Ruth Shane

Director, BPS Collaborative, Boston University

Ruth S. Shane is the director of the Boston University, Boston Public Schools Collaborative. In that position, Ruth oversees tutoring and enrichment programs for students in kindergarten through high school and professional-development workshops for their teachers. She also helps to coordinate the Boston University Initiative for Literacy Development (BUILD), a joint program of several BU departments that tutors children in Allston, Brighton, Roxbury, and Chelsea. Recently, Ruth was one of the first seven people to receive a Boston Higher Education Partnership (BHEP) Service Award, which honors outstanding service and recognizes individuals for their willingness to collaborate with their peers. In addition, she serves as ombudsman for BU’s annual Boston Public High School Scholars Program, which awards full BU scholarships to students from the city.
