Niurka is a recent graduate of Boston College with a B.A. in Human Development and English. She also did a concentration in African and African Diaspora studies. Niurka has served as a peer leader and mentor for undergraduate students at BC. She served as the Director of Social Events for the Organization of Latin American Affairs while at BC.

For two years, she worked as a Student Assistant for the Office of AHANA Student Programs at BC. She also participated in the PULSE program for service learning and the Community Research program. These programs allowed her to conduct research, develop leadership skills, gain public policy training, and volunteer in the community. For three years, Niurka has participated in the Lynch School of Education Dominican Republic service and immersion trip. She is currently an adult leader for this trip, which focuses on social justice and education in the Dominican Republic. Niurka attended Boston Arts Academy and is an ACCESS alumna.
